Copake Theatre Company Founders Pass the Torch
Copake Theatre Company co-founders, John Viscardi and Fiona Hutchison, are passing the torch to longtime friend and colleague, Carl Ritchie. As of January 1, 2006 Ritchie will take over the critically acclaimed theatre company as Artistic Director.
All three are extremely pleased with the arrangement. Viscardi and Hutchison are still very committed to the success of the Copake Theatre Company – they will both serve on the Board - but the demands of their increasingly busy acting careers and raising their two young sons leave them without enough time to give the theatre company the attention it requires. Says Viscardi, “We’re still keeping our home in Copake – the whole family loves it here – but we will have to spend more and more time in New York City and Los Angeles.”
It was in New York City in the early 90’s that Viscardi, Hutchison and Ritchie became acquainted. States Hutchison, “Carl and I met through a very dear mutual friend – an actor named Omar Lotayef - whereas John and Carl worked with the same theatre company, Stagewrights.”
That bond has stood the test of time. Ritchie’s musical, “Nine Months”, was one of the Copake Theatre Company’s first and best-received shows and Ritchie starred in one of the company’s most successful productions, “Pvt. Wars”, directed by Viscardi.
