BARKHAMSTED — Voters are being asked to cast their ballots one more time before the town can finalize this year’s municipal election results.

The town was required to recanvass vote counts on Nov. 10 for three positions on this year’s ballot because the totals between at least two of the candidates were within 20 votes or less.

Although two of the three results remained unchanged — Board of Finance and Zoning Board of Appeals — the race for one of the four seats up for election on the Barkhamsted Board of Education resulted in a tie.

Republican Dawn Anstett and Democrat Dawn Gardner Bobinski each had 410 votes after last week’s recanvassing, Town Clerk Maria Mallady told The Journal.

Anstett picked up one vote during the recount, resulting in a tie between the two. “We have to have a runoff election,” Mallady said, adding that this is the first time the town has had to hold a second vote for two tied candidates.

The runoff vote, officially called an “adjourned election,” will be held this Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the Barkhamsted Elementary School.

Absentee ballots are available from the town clerk’s office.

The other two races that were involved in the recanvassing results remained the same after the recount: Republicans Linda Persechino (439 votes) and David Moulton (441 votes) defeated Democratic challenger Jean L. Markure (426 votes) for full-term seats on the Board of Finance; and Democrat Stephen Raftery (412 votes) retained his lead over Republican candidate Marcie Patchett (409 votes).
