SALISBURY — Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Connecticut held its sixth annual Wine for a Summer’s Eve event on Saturday, July 11, at the home of Elyse and John Harney.
The event was a combination wine-tasting party and charity auction to raise funds for the organization, which builds and rehabilitates houses in the Northwest corner for people in need.
“Right now we’re building our eighth home,” organization co-chairman Marjorie Palmer said. “We are proud of providing safe and stable shelter for people in the area.”
The wine was provided by Little Gates and Company, and chosen with the help of Fred Tregaskis. Music was by the Louise Baranger Trio. Brian Ross from ABC News was the guest auctioneer.
The vintages poured that evening, all under $25 a bottle, included Vespailo, Berger Gruner Veltliner, Indaba Shiraz and even a selection of non-alcoholic Harney and Sons teas.
One guest who was not welcome at the event was Mother Nature. Throughout the evening, volunteers kept looking up at the gray sky and wondering if it would rain.
Fortunately, the rain stayed away, and it was estimated that more than 200 people attended the event.
