NORTH CANAAN — Elizabeth Eddy, 92, formerly of Shushan, N.Y., died Jan. 23, 2007, at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was the widow of Edwyn Alen Eddy.

Mrs. Eddy was born in Astoria, Queens County, N.Y., on Nov. 10, 1914, the first daughter and fourth child of Anne Margaret (Lynch) and Seymour Jesse Baum. She was married in Queens County on Feb. 12, 1938, to Edwyn Alen Eddy, an aeronautical engineer, who died on Sept. 11, 1983.

Although blessed with beauty, it was her strength, determination and creativity that impressed those who knew her. An accomplished cook, builder, woodworker, craftswoman and arm wrestler, she erected stone walls, sometimes greater than her height, well into her 80s. A woman of strong opinions, she had the confidence to express them. Her presence will be sorely missed.

Mrs. Eddy is survived by a sister, Claire Coleman; a brother, Alan Baum; six children, Sandra Eddy Schnyder of Shushan, N.Y., Deborah Eddy of Santa Cruz, Calif., Margaret Eddy Cusick of Norfolk, Christine Eddy of Thomaston, Kathryn Eddy, VMD, of Millerton, N.Y., and Andrew Eddy of Redwood City, Calif.; her sons-in-law, Eugene A. Schnyder, David Cusick and Martin Brennan; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Ducharme Eddy; nine grandchildren, John E. Schnyder, Michael E. Schnyder, Sean Cusick, Brady Cusick, Amanda Cusick, Cynthia Brennan, Matthew Brennan, Brian Eddy and Meghan Eddy; and four great-grandchildren, Liam Cusick, Conor Cusick, Jamie Jones and Isla Cusick.

A service celebrating the life of Mrs. Eddy will be held Friday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington, Vt. There are no visiting hours. Interment will be in the spring in the family lot in South Cemetery in Colebrook.

If friends desire, memorial gifts in Mrs. Eddy’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, PO Box 957, Bennington, VT 05201. For directions or to send the family personal e-mail condolences, visit sheafuneralhomes.com.
