Robert P. Vaccari

WINSTED — Robert P. Vaccari, 86, died Jan. 29, 2010, at Laurel Hill Health Care in Winsted, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Winsted July 11, 1923, he was a son of the late Adeline (Stiquel) and Severino Vaccari. He had lived here all of his life.

Prior to his retirement, he had been a stone mason, working for his brother-in-law, Duke Bascetta, for many years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, was an avid gardner and enjoyed photography and carpentry.

His survivors include a son, Mark Vaccari of New Canaan; a daughter, Kathy Stempeck of West Hartland; two stepsons, Rob Bartos of New Hartford and Mike Bartos of Avon; three brothers, Leo Vaccari and D. John Vaccari, both of Winsted, and David Vaccari of Lyndhurst, N.J.; three sisters, Mary Bascetta and Virginia Guillet, both of Winsted, and Martha Sheilds of Seattle, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Theodore Vaccari.

A memorial service will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s New Cemetery in the spring. There are no calling hours.
